Instagram and Messenger
Direct messages from an Instagram professional account or a Facebook Page. Text replies into conversations customers start.
kind: "instagram" is an Instagram professional account; kind: "messenger" is a Facebook Page.
Both are connected through Meta.
What they can do
| Text | Yes, into conversations the customer started |
| Attachments | Not yet |
| Start a conversation | No: Meta only reveals who someone is after they message you |
| Campaigns | No |
| Delivery | immediate, or queued when your workspace uses the newer Meta send path (see capabilities.delivery) |
Meta applies its own reply window to Instagram and Messenger. Where Gauge enforces it for your
workspace, the connection's limits.sessionWindowHours says how long it is, and a send outside it
is refused before anything reaches Meta: 422 unsupported_channel_action with reason
outside_session_window. Unlike WhatsApp there is no template to reopen it; wait for the customer
to write again.
A send Meta itself refuses (the person blocked the account, or Meta rejects the message) is not an
error on your request: the message is created, then reported failed with Meta's reason in a
message.status_updated event and on
GET /v2/messages/{id}.
